Restorative Nursing Coordinator, Veterans Center (2001 - Present)

• Oversee long-term care for residents at 240-bed, long-term nursing facility. Supervise five restorative certified nurses aids. Perform as Wound Rounds Coordinator, and additionally serve as Charge Nurse, directing resident care for 40-bed unit. Maintain all facility statistics.
• Carry out wound (pressure ulcer) assessment, recommend treatment, and follow up with patients on regular basis. Analyze, track, and report on wound statistics.
• Coordinate resident care, working closely with dieticians, physical therapists, and physicians. Serve as liaison between patients, facility, and families.
• Implement care plans for each patient designed to improve range of motion and keep patients at optimum health levels, while reducing or eliminating pressure ulcers.
• Develop care plans for residents suffering from bowel, bladder, mobility, contracture, and ambulatory issues as well as from pressure ulcers.
• Established pilot wound care prevention program that has reduced overall percentage of residents with pressure ulcers from 19% to 4%, and dramatically reduced time necessary to heal pre-existing cases of newly-arrived residents. Program presently being readied for use in all facilities.
• Currently introducing new skin care program. Developed policies, procedures, and protocols, determined equipment needs, selected and purchased/leased equipment, and carried out all training for pilot program intended for expansion to all five facilities.
• Earned Employee of the Month Award.

Staff Nurse, Massachusetts State Hospital, Dept. of Public Welfare (1999 - 2001)

• Charge Nurse/Staff Nurse for 300-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital, supervising LPNs and nurses aides for 25-bed unit.
• Coordinate and perform assessments, and work with medical staff to create plan of care for wide variety of psychiatric conditions.
• Carry out monthly peer reviews as part of QA program. Prepare reports for education department to facilitate identification of needs and training programs.
• As Nursing Group Therapy Leader, led exercise and anxiety reduction sessions.
• Key member of interdisciplinary team that included social workers, psychiatrists, physicians, and nurses. Assisted with development care plans, and met with patient families on monthly basis to provide updates and information, and address any concerns.
